City Elections

General Information

The City of Edgewater's regular municipal elections are conducted every two (2) years, in odd-numbered years, on the first Tuesday in November for the purpose of voting on the City's elected officials. Regular elections are coordinated with the Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder's Office. The mayor is elected to a two-year term and the councilors are elected to a four-year term. Council two-year terms are only permitted to restore the staggered expiration of terms of Council. Terms of office begin at the first regular City Council meeting following certification of election results.

All municipal elections are non partisan, that is, persons are elected to office without consideration of political party affiliation. All regular and special elections are managed by the City Clerk. All election forms are obtained from the City Clerk's Office and all filings are made therein.

Elections may also be held at other times. Ballot issues, those which relate to financial matters such as taxes or debt can be voted on at the regular municipal election. Non-financial matters may be voted on in November of both odd and even numbered years. Special elections may be called by the City Council and may be held on any date other than the City's regular election date. Special elections are called by a City Council resolution adopted at least thirty (30) days prior to the election date.
